Raw Edge Furniture Site Visit
Dave Eastwood welcomed us and invited us to take a tour of his excellent facilities which included a great range of machinery dedicated to making fine furniture, with everything functional and in the best place.
Our first impression was that it was spotlessly clean and tidy with everything put away in its place, and Dave soon confirmed that this was the way he worked and trained his employees to make sure that this was how you finished the day, ready to start afresh each morning.
He appreciated the way many of our members work and was happy to offer us the benefit of his experience and
bigger equipment whenever our projects become larger than we could easily manage.
He talked about the difficulties of managing a small business in our current climate, producing custom made furniture which was often based on a customer’s ideas and from that initial concept, producing a design that is both functional and economical and at the same time satisfies his demand for good construction.
Dave explained that he usually had most WA timbers in the workshop and would often use re-cycled timber where possible and was particular in sourcing environmentally sustainable logs from farmers whenever they were available.
As most of us have our own workshops at home we were all appreciative of Dave sharing his ideas on the best way he made his layout work efficiently and how it could be adapted to suit us.
Many thanks once again to Dave for staying back and taking time to show us all around the Raw Edge workshop and the furniture he was building.
